Q magazine as you can see by the front cover is about music that’s currently out now. Where as "Uncut" is more about old retro music. As you can see the edition I have picked to analyse is a "rock legend" edition.
Q magazine.
Uncut
When you open Q magazine the firs thing you see is a double page spread of an advert. The advert is for a BMW car. This clearly shows that the magazine company have aimed for a target audience of at least 17 or above. The contents page doesn’t actually start until page 9 due to various adverts.
The article I think that sticks out most in the magazine is whats on the front cover "kings of Leon break through" This is because it must be relevant to the target audience because it’s the dominant photo & article on the front cover. Also at this time "January 2009" Kings of Leon had just come about. Therefore it was something new and exciting for the magazine’s target audience.

This is the double page spread of kings of leon.
I think the heading provides escapism "step inside rock and rolls own fight club" Its saying "step inside" get involved in rock and roll. This article would appeal to those who like to immerse themselves in rock & roll. Therefore it relates to that target audience in that way
Although Q is a music magazine, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the full magazine revolves around music alone. This wouldn’t interest the readers. The magazine digs deep into some of the bands personal life’s, providing a form of personal relationships with the band to the audience. The audience then feel they can relate to various bands on a personal level that can be applied to their everyday life.
This particular article also provides surveillance because the article carries on through 7-8 pages. All about each individual member of the band and their "rock ‘n’ roll own fight club"
I think this article is seen as a bad influence because its about violence and also the coilours and main dominated picture all suggest the same. The background picture is black, associated with bad or scary. In the main picture they all have serious faces and full of cuts and bruises.
I would think this article would appeal more to men than to woman. This is because the stereo typical male would be interested in fighting and male dominated activities. Also most if not all of the adverts seem to appeal more to male than female, for example one of the first couple of adverts is a watch advert with a male dominated picture, Also adverts for gears of war 2 (a form of x box/play station game)
However I also think this magazine could appeal to girls because there are many that stray from the stereotypical teenage female, Also there is an article on pink who is a role model to many woman. But mostly men I think would read this magazine.
Uncut
This magazine's ideology I think focuses on mainly old retro bands movies and books. mainly living in the past
Again like in the Q magazine the target audience is clearly 17 and over as the advert on the first two pages is of a BMW car.
Because the magazine is mainly old music it may appeal more to older people the magazine costs £3.90 which isn’t incredibly dear but more likely to be paid with adults with paid jobs.
The magazine provides a diversion to normal reality because its set in the past and includes detailed precise articles some may say form "back in the day." for example the main article in this magazine is a detailed tribute to John Lennon. Talking all about his life until his last day. Because he came from an extremely successful band and became famous on his own, this will attract a lot of people to this magazine. The front cover says it’s a "rock legends special edition" and 200+ reviews on music movies and books. There’s a wide audience that would cover this from teenagers to very old people that were around at this time.
The magazine has a rock legend dominant image on the front. the feel of retro rock legend is carried out throughout the magazine. The contents page has alot of pictures of old rock bands and throughout has various old articles.
The magazine has a special section under the name dispatches, this is "news, views & oppinions from the music and movie frontline. It starts off with rolling stones back the years. Again this is appealing to a huge target audience.

-I think that the colour of the title sets the scene for this issue. The colour to me seems an old worn colour that would have been used back in the 60's which is what this magazine is based on.
